A Preventable Disease
Many people have called looking for a pup after loosing their dog from Lymes kidney failure.
These facts can keep your dog/cat healthy and can ultimately let them lead a longer
healthier life.
1. Some of the dogs died that had only gotten the lyme vaccine.
2. Some dogs were given topical flee and tick only in the spring and summer and fall.
3. Dogs usually get sick quick with lymes, often holding a front paw up and not getting up
the next day
4. Some dogs can carry lymes a long time dormant and then get very sick quickly.
5. To prevent lymes in your labrador be aware lymes vaccines are 80 % protective across
the board in testings of retrievers and vary in other dog breeds. Do the vaccine every
year or two and the topicals every month.
6. Lyme Ticks are active at 32 degrees rear round even if it was -20 the day before.
7. Mice are the biggest carrier of lymes and deer are 2nd. Dogs do not get immunity from
having lymes disease. Use a topical that says it kills lyme ticks quickly, when used along
with the vaccine your dog is 100 % protected.
8. Puppies cannot use topicals until 12 weeks old. Using a flee and tick collar for
puppies 6 weeks old and up will give protection until 12 weeks of age.
